The pretty dandelion is a weed!
Story of the day: The pretty dandelion is a weed!
As a child, picking flowers was a norm. One of my favorite to pick was the dandelion. Little did I know, that the dandelion wasn’t a flower at a all, but a weed dressed in a garment of seeds. I would pick these little weeds, and then blow them off of the stem to watch them blow away, like little angels dancing in the air. The little seeds would begin their journey of riding the wind current so that they could take root in their next victim, I mean, patch of grass.
I began to think about this a little more and I wondered, what in our spiritual life looks like this weed? The first thing that came to mind, was pride. Pride is ”the dandelion of the soul. Its root goes deep; only a little left behind sprouts again. Its seeds lodge in the tiniest encouraging cracks. And it flourishes in good soil: The danger of pride is that it feeds on goodness,” (Larson), and no matter how hard it is to not to pick up the flower of pride, it can be difficult because of how beautiful it is. But remember, pride can choke out the goodness that it is feeding on and leave you wishing you hadn’t picked it.
So instead of picking pride and allowing it’s weed’s seeds to spread, leave it be, and allow God to grow in you some flowers of humility.
Quote of the day: Kenneth Blanchard
“I define ego as Edging God Out.”
Bible verse of the day: Proverbs 16:19
“Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.”
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Pride can look so beautiful and appear to be good at times, but once it takes root, it can choke out the goodness of a person. Father, I pray to resist the temptation of picking up pride and making it a part of my life. I choose to pick the humbleness that You have shown through the love of Your Son and by the Grace that You have shared with me. I ask for forgiveness for allowing the pride to creep in at times and for ever thinking that it is okay. I thank You for this blessed day!
In Jesus Name I pray,
Amen
