Story of the day: Sand Volleyball
This past weekend a few of our friends decided to play sand volleyball. We played three games and with all of the spiking, sliding into the sand, colliding into one another, and swimming in the pond to retrieve the ball (Kenny), we were pretty lucky to not have had as many injuries as we did. The next day at church as we were all investigating our scrapes, aching bodies, the triathlon that our friend Kenny participated in while playing this sport, and our friend Dustin who’s cell phone got wet while swimming in the pond, one of our friends Mo, did appear to have an infection in his leg. Although I am no doctor by any means, his leg looked a little irritated. It reminded me of Jeff’s leg when it got infected and it needed antibiotics. For those of you that are so very lucky and have yet to take an antibiotic, here’s what it is. An antibiotic is a chemical compound that inhibits or abolishes the growth of microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, or protozoan’s. Okay, now here’s Christy’s definition, the antibiotic stops the bacteria from spreading and allows the infection to heal. Let me tell you, if you know the pond behind our house, sometimes it is full of algae and fungi, and who knows what’s in the sand. Maybe we all should be taking the antibiotic. Do you have infection in your life? Let me be the first to tell you that you need Jesus the best Antibiotic of all. He can heal you from any infection in your life. If you go to the doctor, he is going to prescribe John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” So, my prayer for the infection in your life is to be healed by the best prescribed Antibiotic of all, Jesus.
Quote of the day: Francis of Assisi
“Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.
Bible verse of the day: John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your Son Jesus. Lord, I pray that I wake up everyday and take my Antibiotic Jesus and make Him a part of everything in me. I pray for things in my life that aren’t pleasing to You, the infection in my life, to be revealed so that it can start to heal. I love You Lord and I thank You for getting my parents home safely. Be with us today and continue to guide us with all things True.
In Jesus Name I pray,
Amen
Story of the day: Pillow Talk
The morning that I woke up at 2:49 A.M., after writing my quote, I rolled over towards Jeff and quietly said, “Jeff, Jeff” to see if he was awake. He then answered back and we began talking about things, our usual pillow talk. We usually talk about our day, but because it was 2:00 in the morning, and this is the time that God usually always talks to me, we began to talk Spiritual things. If God mentions something to Jeff, then I usually confirm it, because God will have placed something in my heart about it. The same is true with Jeff. For the most part, God will give us insight about our prayers, but doesn’t always give us the whole picture. We talk about our passions in the ministry and what the Kingdom holds for Jeff and I. Nanette Kinkade says it so well in Simply Put. “Have you ever stopped and wondered what God’s will is for your life? It seems to be a deeper question. Almost rhetorical. Ripe for discussion. And somewhere down the road you might just discover it. Knowing God’s will for our lives often seems more mysterious than mandatory, more elusive than something God intends for us to experience. But when we lose sight of the work God is building in us, we have to refer back to God’s blueprint–His Word. Granted, His outline is not as defined as we may want Micah 6:8 sums up our calling as Christians as simply to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God. That’s it. No earthshaking, mind-blowing revelation to tell you exactly what to do. Instead, He tells us how to be. I think He does that for two reasons. One, if He clearly told us what specific thing to do, we’d be off and running in that direction without waiting on His timing. The other is that God is as concerned with attitude as with action. He’s not up in Heaven hoping we get together the right to-do list; He wants right hearts. That happens when we acknowledge Him in all our ways, trusting that He alone will direct our paths at the right time. By living simply in Him, surrendered to Him, discerning God’s will is no longer stressful. Instead, it becomes first nature as every moment of our lives is directed by His Spirit.” Christy
Quote of the day: Warren W. Wiersbe
“If life is to have meaning, and if God’s will is to be done, all of us have to accept who we are and what we are, give it back to God, and thank him for the way he made us. What I am is God’s gift to me; what I do with it is my gift to Him.
Bible verse of the day: Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Prayer:
Father, Thank You that You do have a “will” for my life. I’m beginning to see that instead of it necessarily being something You have for me to accomplish, it is someone You want me to become. Help me empty me of myself that Your Spirit may come and fill me. Then, day by day, as I encounter new opportunities, decisions, and challenges, I can rest in Your guidance as I simply seek to do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with You.
In Jesus Name I pray,
Amen
Story of the day: Christy the Crocodile Hunter
When my dad and the rest of my family were stationed in Georgia, my dad decided to take us on a little adventure. Boy, we had no idea what we were in for. As we headed down through Georgia close to Florida and made it to this swamp called the Okefenokee Swamp, little could prepare us for our endeavor. This place was the first place that I actually saw a Manatee in the wild, and some of our other friends called Alligators. My dad decided to rent a boat, and I’m not talking a big boat that keeps you safe from anything. I am talking about a little row boat that I think had a motor. The boat was about 6 feet long and probably on 2 feet high. Just small enough for any alligator to jump on in and take a ride with us. So, we started on our little expedition and about 1/2 mile into the swamp, in our boat, we encountered our first alligator. I think my mom thought that it was fake, or possibly put there just for attracting people to this particular area of the swamp. But let me tell you, it was so very real. Then we saw another, then another and they just kept appearing. At this point, I didn’t feel like jumping in this water to tackle the alligator like Steve the real Crocodile Hunter, instead, I wanted to get to land so that I could get out of the swamp as quickly as possible. I even think that our motor stopped working (that or my dad was having a good time with us) and so we paddled for a little bit. Eventually, my dad calmed us. He said to just trust him and it will be okay. You know what, we were okay, even in that small boat. After we got a little more comfortable, we decided to stick it out and just observe the alligators in their natural habitat. It was one of the best experiences of my life. You know, so many times, we get to where we want to jump out of the boat because maybe what we are experiencing is very scary. Sometimes the path that God leads us down is unfamiliar and we don’t want to listen to Him. We think that by getting to land and out of our swamp as quickly as possible that everything will be okay. Instead, I encourage you to have faith in Your Heavenly Father, and He will show you one of the best experiences of your life, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time. You will always remember that moment that you decided to trust God, your Father, and once you trust God to see you through whatever it is that you are going through, it will become easier to trust Him for everything. Christy
Quote of the day: Dr. Tony Evans
“The only way that you can know if God can deliver you now is if he’s delivered you before.”
Bible Verse of the day: Isaiah 12:2
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, There have been so many e-mails about trust. Lord, I ask that each person that is having a hard time trusting to remember that once that trust You and see how You work in their lives, that it will become easier and easier to trust. Lord, You are such an awesome God and I thank You for my friends and family. I ask that You watch over them and protect them. I pray for the families that lost loved ones in the bridge collapse. I pray to always put my trust in You, even when things don’t seem to me like it is right. Let me be reminded that You are in control of every situation and You will protect me.
In Jesus Name I pray,
Amen
