He is your Friend

Story of the day:  He is your Friend

We all have friends or family that we can talk to.  The freedom to be able to share with them what is in our hearts and to feel comfortable enough to  “pick up where you left off” can be comforting.

I admire Francois Fenelon because she so eloquently put it this way,

Tell God all that is in your heart, as one unloads one’s heart, its pleasures and its pains, to a dear friend.  Tell Him your troubles, that He may comfort you; tell Him your joys, that He may sober them; tell Him your longings, that He may purify them; tell Him your dislikes, that He may help you to conquer them; talk to Him of your temptations, that He may shield you from them; show Him the wounds of your heart, that He may heal them; lay bare your indifference to good, your depraved tastes for evil, your stability.  Tell Him how self-love makes you unjust to others, how vanity tempts you to be insincere, how pride disguises you to yourself and others.

If you thus pour out all your weaknesses, needs, troubles, there will be no lack of what to say.  You will never exhaust the subject.  It is continually being renewed.  People who have no secrets from each other never want for subject of conversation.  They do not weigh their words, for there is nothing to be held back; neither do they seek for something to say.  They talk out of the abundance of the heart, without consideration they say just what they think.  Blessed are they who attain to such familiar, unreserved intercourse with God.”

Quote of the day:  George Eliot

“Oh, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person; having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but to pour them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away.”

Bible verse of the day:  Proverbs 18:24

“A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a friend.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank You for friends.  I thank You that You have given them to me as a constant reminder of Who You truly are.  I Thank You that I am able to tell You everything in my life.  You listen to me, You talk to me, You love me even at my worst, and You are always guiding me.  As I start my day, You are there to greet me and as I head off to sleep, You are there to watch over me.  You follow me through my day, protecting me from myself, and always seem to make me laugh when I am down for whatever reason.  I can always count on You being there, as a friend, as my Father, as my Protector, as my “All in all.”  Thank You that You never change and that You are always there no matter the situation.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,
