Unwrap your gift

Friends and family,

We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Quote of the day will be up and running again January 5, 2009.  We pray that the time you have with your family and friends is full of love, joy, and blessing.

Love always,

Jeff, Christy, Christen, Jeffrey, and Joshua

Story of the day:  Unwrap your gift

I want to share a GIFT with you all.  I hope you aren’t disappointed because this GIFT doesn’t look like all the other presents under the tree.  It’s not wrapped in the most expensive paper and bows.  It is coming to you simply wrapped in cloth.    The GIFT cost so much more than the value of any dollar, yet you wouldn’t be able to tell by it’s appearance.  The GIFT is not like any other gift.  After you accept this GIFT and open it, the GIFT will continue to grow along side you and will be with you forever.  You will love this GIFT like no other for it offers Grace, Peace, and Love.  My Father said that this will bring so much joy to whoever opens it.  I can honestly say He was right!  I opened my gift just like it  in the year 1988 and I grow more and more in love with it every day. I am so excited to share this GIFT with you and I hope that you will love the GIFT as much as I have.  Merry Christmas!

Bible verse of the day:  John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the GIFT of Your Son, Jesus.  Father, many people think that there is something that needs to be done to accept Your GIFT.  They think that they need to some how repay You for what You are giving them, like working for it or seeing how good they can be.  Father, Your Son, paid it all on Calvary.  There is nothing more that we can do.  I don’t have enough money in the world to repay You for this wonderful GIFT.  I can’t work enough hours to pay off my debt.  I find so much peace in knowing that all You ask is that I accept Your precious GIFT and then You will begin a change in me that I can’t do on my own.  Father, I thank You that things don’t have to be so complicated.  My heart breaks knowing that we tend to make things more complicated than need be when we do them on our own.  Father, this Christmas I pray for Joy, Peace, and most of all Love to a world that is in need.  I pray that their hearts will be filled like they have never been filled before and that they recognize that it is coming from You.  I thank You for the GIFT of Your Son and for this blessed day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Funny Friday Quote: Mistaken Identity

Funny Friday Quote:  Mistaken Identity

Bob Brown shared the story of his father’s embarrassing mishap in church.  When finished helping with communion, his father sat down beside Bob’s mother and did what he always did when he sat down beside her–gave her a hug and little peck on the cheek.  Then he looked up and saw his wife in the row in front of him.

Bible verse of the day:  Psalm 107:9

“For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

My heart is steadfast.  I will sing and give praise to You with all that I am.  Your mercy is so great above the Heavens and Your Truth reaches to the clouds.  Father, I pray that Your Hand will become my help in all areas of my life and all that I do brings glory to Your Name.  I thank You for this blessed day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Lean back and depend on Him

Story of the day:  Lean back and depend on Him

In the last few days, I have seen so many telephone pole, electric pole, and street light workers out and about working their hardest to restore power to areas in Dallas that have been hit with bad weather. I became mesmerized at the telephone pole workers because of the way they have to get to the top of their poles.  The electric and street light workers can head up via a machine, but the telephone pole workers have to climb up their poles.

Little did I know that “telephone-pole climbing is an art.  In order to climb, the belt goes around the pole and the climber must wear spiked shoes.  The secret is to lean back and depend on the belt so the spikes can dig into the pole.  Depending on the belt is hard to learn; often a beginner slides down the splintery pole because he won’t depend on his equipment.  It only takes a few such experiences to convince the beginner that it is better to depend on the belt.

In the Christian Life, God wants us to climb by depending on Him.  When we are hurt by the splinters, we should recognize that they are reminders that we need to depend on His strength and loving protection.” Author Unknown

Quote of the day:  Author Unknown

“He who deliberates fully before taking a step will spend his entire life on one leg.”

Bible verse of the day:  Proverbs 3:5

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today as I head into my day, I pray to trust You completely, depend on You totally, and rest in the plans that are set before me.  Father, I pray that as I lean back into Your arms, that no matter what obstacles I may face this day, I will go to You in prayer and give them to You.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

What can I give you?

Story and Quote of the day:  What can I give you?

The following appeared in Home Living, May 1980 written by Lydia Lightner:  My child, what can I give you?

I should like to give you everything so that you lack nothing, not even one single desire, but I know that for want of many things I have come to be satisfied with what I have and to think of others and their needs.

I should like to give you a life full of fun and games, but I know that because of many “chores” and responsibilities of my youth, I have learned to be responsible.

I should like to protect you from all the errors of your youth, but I know that because of my failures, I have learned to make better decisions.

I should like to give you a profession of wealth or importance, but I realize that man is truly happy only when he fulfills the purpose for which God has created him.  What then, my child, can I give you that would be of any real value?

I give you my love, which means that I accept you, without reservation, just as you are and will be.

I give you my personal presence in order that you will have the security you need during your childhood.

I give you my ears, in the sense that I will never be too busy to listen to you–sometimes never uttering even one word.

I give you opportunities to work so that you might learn to do it without shame and come to enjoy the satisfaction of work well done.

I give you my counsel on when it is necessary or you ask for it so that you might avoid some of the mistakes that I have made.

I give you my consolation when you have failed or feel discouraged, but I will not always protect you from the consequences of your sins.

I give you instructions of the way of the Lord so that when you are old, you will never depart from it.

I give you my daily prayers that the Lord will keep you and guide you in such a way that you, my child, will be a man or woman who will serve and glorify our Heavenly Father.

This I give you with all my love.

Bible verse of the day:  Proverbs 22:6

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank You for my children.  Father, my prayer for them is that they continue to grow into the likeness of You and that they will accept their gifts of what You are calling them to be in their life.  I pray that they will continue to seek  a close relationship with You, so that  they too can share with others the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Essence of Faith

Story of the day:  Essence of Faith

Faith is defined as a secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God’s will.  To put it into practical terms, “suppose there is a fire in the upper section of a house.   As the people gather in the street below, a child is seen at the window of a room next to the fire.  The fire trucks are at least five minutes away and so will be too late to help.  How is the child to escape?

Now suppose that in the neighborhood lives a large man, well known for his strength and athletic ability.  He arrives at the scene and shouts to the child, “Drop into my arms.  Don’t be afraid.  I’ll catch you.”

It is one part of faith for the child to know that the man is there.  It is another part of faith to believe that the man is strong and able to catch someone.  But the essence of faith lies in his dropping down into the man’s arms.”  (author unknown)  To have complete trust and faith in God is to drop down into His Arms when He says to do so.

Quote of the day:  Elton Trueblood

“Faith is not belief without proof but trust without reservation.”

Bible verse of the day:  Romans 1:17

“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I am so thankful to You for Your Faithfulness, Mercy, and Love.  Father, You have asked me to do Your Will and as I share Your Word, I just wanted You to know how thankful I am for Your Son Jesus Christ, for through Him, salvation is there for everyone who believes.  My prayer for today is that we can lay aside denominations and come together as one to share with others the Gift of  Your Son, Jesus Christ.  I thank You for this blessed day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Funny Friday Quote: One sided conversation

Funny Friday Quote:  One sided conversation (Isaac Asimov)

A man is speaking into the telephone, and you hear only his side of the conversation.

“Yes, Mother, I’ve had a hard day.  Gladys has been most difficult–I know I ought to be more firm, but it is hard.  Well, you know how she is.  Yes, I remember you warned me.  I remember you told me she was a vile creature who would make my life miserable, and you begged me not to marry her.  You were perfectly right.  You want to talk to her?  All right.”

He looks up from the telephone and calls to his wife from the next room, “Gladys, your mother wants to talk to you.”

Bible verse of the day:  Psalm 119:81

“My soul faints for Your salvation, But I hope in Your word”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today as I head into my day, I pray to be an encouragement to all those that I may encounter along my path.  I pray as Warren Wiersbe prayed for my heart to be filled by Your Love so that only truth and purity may come out of my mouth.  I give You honor and praise for all that You do and all that You continue to do in my life.  I thank You for this blessed day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Look at your guage

Story of the day:  Look at your gauge

In a boiler room, it is impossible to look into the boiler to see how much water it contains.  But running up beside it is a tiny glass tube, that serves as a gauge.  As the water stands in the little tube, so it stands in the great boiler.  When the tube is half full, the boiler is half full; if empty, so is the boiler.  How do you know you love God?  You believe you love Him, but you want to know.  Look at the gauge.  Your love for your brother is the measure of your love for God. Michael P. Green

Quote of the day:  Patrick Morley

“The height of our love for God will never exceed the depth of our love for one another.”

Bible verse of the day:  1 John 4:11

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving me so much.  I pray that Your love for me and the love that I have for You can be shared with those around me and that they will know it comes from You.  Father, my heart seeks to know You better and I pray that the eyes of my heart continue to open and the love spills out!  I thank You for this blessed day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen
