Story of the day:  Where are you storing your treasure?

“There is a story of a wealthy woman who, when she reached Heaven, was conducted to a very plain house.  She objected.  “Well,” she was told, “that is the dwelling-place prepared for you.”

“Whose is that fine mansion across the way?” she asked.

Her guide replied, “It belongs to your gardener.”

“How is it that he has a house so much better than mine?”

“The houses here are prepared from the materials that are sent up.  We do not choose them; you do that by your faithfulness while on earth.”

This may be a story, but it bears a profound truth about the “treasures” we accumulate.”  Michael P. Green

Quote of the day:  Peter Maurin

“The world would be better off if people tried to become better.  And people would become better if they stopped trying to become better off.  For when everybody tries to become better off, nobody becomes better off.  But when everybody tries to become better, everybody is better off.”

Bible verse of the day:  Matthew 6:21

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your Word is so clear in Matthew 6:19-21 about not laying our treasures here on earth, but up in Heaven.  Father, may I be reminded daily that the stuff here on earth, is just stuff that can’t be taken with me when I die, and the things that I do for Your Kingdom are eternal.  I pray to You for an eternal mindset in all areas of my life.  Father, I am so thankful to You for always meeting my needs even when I don’t know how it’s going to be done and the faith that I have in You is far greater than worrying about it.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Funny Friday Quote:  Honest Young Man

“Aunt Aggie was distressed when she lost her handbag in a shopping center recently.  An honest young man lad found it and returned it to her.

“Funny,”  Aggie commented.  “When I misplaced the bag there was a ten-dollar bill in it.  Now I find ten one-dollar bills.”

“That’s right lady,” explained the honest lad.  “The last time i found a lady’s purse, she didn’t have any change for a reward.”

Bible verse of the day:  Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I had no idea last night as Jeff and I lay in our bed and the bed began to move that we were in the middle of an earthquake.  When I woke from a dead sleep and questioned why the bed was moving, Jeff and I just went back to sleep, although we just weren’t sure what it was.  We went back to sleep and woke up this morning to find out that we had experienced our first earthquake ever.  Father, I thank You for keeping us safe, and I pray for those that have been effected by it.  I pray as we head into another weekend, that we continue to seek Your name, worship You, and find reverence in You.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Story of the day:  My Father gave it to me .

“A young man named sinner once received from his Father a beautiful, bright-red convertible.  He named it Salvation-sparking, new, clean, modern, powerful.

It delighted the young man so much, especially because it was a gift.  He could never have afforded it.  So delighted, the boy even changed his name fron Sinner to Saved.

He polished his car every week.  Took pictures of it.  Sent it to friends.  Looked it over–front, back, under top, bottom, inside out.  Never-never tired of telling others about the gift.  “My Father gave it to me.  It was free!”

Some days later Saved was seen on the highway, pushing Salvation.  An individual named Helper walked up and introduced Himself and asked if He could assist.

“Oh, no thanks.  Just out enjoying my new car,” as he wiped the sweat off his face.  “Just had a little trouble because my bumper kept cutting my hands, especially on these hills.  But then a nice man helped me.  Showed me how to mount little rubber cushions right here, underneath the bumper, and now I can push this thing for hours without a blister.  Also, i’ve been trying something new lately.  They use it over in England.  You put your back against the car, lift, and it works like a charm, especially on muddy roads.”

Helper asked, “Have you pushed the car very far?”

“Well, about 200 miles altogether.  It’s been hard, but since it was a gift from my Father, that the least I can do in return to thank Him.”

Helper opened the door on the right side and said, “Get in.”

After hesitation, he decided it was worth a try and he slid in on the passenger side and rested for the first time since he’d been given the car.  Helper walked around, opened the door, slid behind the wheel, and started the car.

“What’s all that noise?”  he said.  Moments later they were moving down the highway quietly, at fifty, sixty miles an hour.  he was taken aback.  It all seemed to fall into place.  It was even exciting.  he knew he needed this Salvation Car to be admitted through the gate at the end of the highway.  But somehow he felt that getting there was his responsibility.” (Larry Christenson)

Quote of the day:  Vance Havner

“You can become a Christian by going to church just about as easily as you can become an automobile by sleeping in a garage.”

Bible verse of the day:  Acts 1:8

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

How many times in my Christian drive, have I wanted to take the reigns from You and try to, as the story today illustrates, “push my car”, when I could be letting You lead me in this drive.  Father, as we are driving down this road of life, I pray that You help me steer clear of distractions and temptations so that I may honor You with my prayers.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Has the question, “Why do bad things happen to people?”, ever come to mind?   John Piper said it best like this, “Don’t run your eyes over the promises of God like the wrong pages in a phone book.  God Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, said, “I will not turn away from doing good to them…I will rejoice in doing them good…with all my heart and soul.”  Let all three promises sink in.

God will not turn away from doing you good.  He will keep on doing good.  He doesn’t do good to his children sometimes and bad to them other times.  He keeps on doing good and he never will stop doing good for ten thousand ages of ages.  When things are going “bad” that does not mean God has stopped doing good.  It means He is shifting things around to get them in place for more good, if you will go on loving Him.  He works all things together for good “for those who love Him.”

Quote of the day:  Brother Lawrence

“Let us think often that our only business in this life is to please God.”

Bible verse of the day:  Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank You that the weather is much better today than this past weekend.  Lord, as we were all stranded in our homes, I was able to reflect on the things that You have blessed me with.  God, we truly had a weekend to just rest.  Rest our minds, our spirits, and our bodies.  We started to prepare for the upcoming move to Dallas and with just 4 months to go, there is much preparation in moving our family from the top of the country to the bottom.  I pray that You continue to direct my path, manage my time, and place in my heart the things that You would like for me to write about.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen
