Drop that trifle

Story of the day:  Drop that trifle

Billy Graham writes:  One day a little child was playing with a valuable vase.  He put his hand into it and could not take it out.  His father, too, tried his best to get the little boy’s hand out, but all in vain.  They were thinking of breaking the vase when the father said, “Now, my son, make one more try.  Open your hand and hold your fingers out straight as you see me doing and then pull.”

To the father’s astonishment the little fellow said, “Oh no, Daddy.  I couldn’t put my fingers out like that because if I did I would drop my penny.”

Smile if you will–but thousands of us are like that little boy, so busy holding on to the world’s worthless trifles that we cannot accept God’s freedom.

What “trifle” is keeping you from God?  A sin you won’t let go of?  An unworthy goal you are determined to reach?  A dishonorable relationship you won’t give up?  I beg you to drop that trifle in your heart.  Surrender!  Let go and let God have His way in your life.

Quote of the day: D.L. Moody

“Trust in yourself and you are doomed to disappointment; trust in money and you may have it taken from you, but trust in God, and you are never to be confounded in time or eternity.”

Bible verse of the day:  James 4:8a

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that You bring to light any trifle that may be standing in the way of drawing close to You.  Father I know that if I trust in myself, that I will be disappointed every single time.  I am forever grateful that You don’t change and that I can count on You for every area of my life.  Thank You for giving me peace that passes all understanding and for Your love that continues to grow in me each day.  I love You and thank You for this blessed day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Time is so rare

Story of the day:  Time is so rare

“Time is so significant because it is so rare.  It is completely irretrievable.  You can never repeat it or relive it.  There is no such thing as a literal instant replay.  That appears only on film.  It travels alongside us every day, yet it has eternity wrapped up in it.  Although this is true, time often seems relative, doesn’t it?  For example, two weeks on vacation is not at all like two weeks on a diet.  Also, some people stay longer in an hour than others can in a week!  Ben Franklin said of time, “…that is the stuff life is made of.”  Time forms life’s building blocks.” Lloyd Cory

Quote of the day:  William James

“The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.”

Bible verse of the day:  1 Corinthians 15:52

“in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.  For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for time.  Thank You for the time that I have with my friends and family.  Father, time goes by so quickly.  I pray to use my time wisely and to treasure every minute that I have while I am here.  Life is so short and in an instant 10, 20, 30 years go by and all we have is now.  Thank You for the now and a hope for a tomorrow.  I pray to find peace and rest in the time that I have and to show others the love that You have given to me. I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Our attitude is contagious

Story of the day:  Our Attitude is Contagious

I love to laugh,  and although I may not feel like always laughing or smiling, my attitude is very contagious so I must be aware of it.  My family can tell right away if I have a good attitude or bad attitude just based on my facial expressions.  “If you’re upbeat and optimistic, people tend to emulate you.  But, if you fall prey to cynicism or pessimism, others will also.

How will you direct your thoughts today?  Will you obey the words of Philippians 4:8, by dwelling upon those things that are true, honorable, and right?  Or will you allow your thoughts to be hijacked by the negativity that seems to dominate our troubled world?  Have you become so overwhelmed and preoccupied with the concerns of this day that you fail to thank God for the promise of eternity?  Are you fearful, angry, bored, worried, confused, bitter, or pessimistic?  If so, God wants to have a little talk with you.

God intends that you experience joy and abundance, but He will not force His joy upon you; you must claim it for yourself.  So today and everday hereafter, focus your thoughts and your energies upon ‘whatever is commendable’“(Family Christian Press), and remember that your attitude is contagious.

Quote of the day:  Barbara Johnson

“Developing a positive attitude means working continually to find what is uplifting and encouraging.”

Bible verse of the day:  Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise-worthy- meditate on these things.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I first of all want to apologize for anytime that I have allowed my attitude to effect others in a negative way.  God as much as I always want to be happy, sometimes it doesn’t always happen.  I pray that during these times, I am able to recognize this and can push through the way that I am feeling and remember that my attitude, whether bad or good, is very contagious and can have a lasting effect on others.  God, prepare my heart for the times that I am fearful, angry, or upset so that I can pray to You about them and they can be lifted.  I give all that I am and have to You and while dwelling on things that are true, Your peace will be with me, which in turn changes my negative attitude to a positive attitude and effects others in a positive way.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen
