Funny Friday Quote: Glad he’s done! (Jim Kraus)

A woman named Gladys Dunn was new in town and decided to visit the church closest to her apartment.

She appreciated the pretty sanctuary and the music by the choir, but the sermon went on and on. Worse, it wasn’t very interesting. Glancing around, she saw many people in the congregation nodding off.

Finally it was over. After the service, she turned to a still sleepy-looking gentleman next to her, extended her hand, and said, “I’m Gladys Dunn.”

“You and me both!” he replied.

Bible verse of the day: Psalm 119:89 (NKJV)

“Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your Word provides so much hope and gives direction for my life. May Your words from the Bible spark a flame inside of me that never dies.  I pray that no person or circumstances can take my eyes off of You and that everything that I do is petitioned before You so that the decisions that I make bring You honor and glory! I love You Father and I am thankful for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Funny Friday Quote:  A dollar a week

“When I was a pastor of the Little Brown Chruch, I was greatly annoyed by Karl Neufeld, and elderly memeber, who fell asleep during my sermon every Sunday.  So, after service one day, I said to his grandson who always accompanied the senior citizen, “If you can keep the old man awake, I’ll pay you a dollar.”

This worked for two weeks; the aged man was very alert and listened to the sermons attentively.  On the third Sunday, however, there he was, up to his old tricks, sound asleep in his pew.

After the service I called the boy over and said, “I am disappointed in you.  Didn’t I promise you a dollar a week to keep your grandfather awake?”

“Yes, replied the boy, “but Grandpa gives me five not to disturb him.”

Bible verse of the day:  Psalm 104:1

“Bless the LORD, O my soul!  O LORD my God, You are vey great:  You are clothed with honor and majesty,”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

The weeks are flying by and I can’t believe that we only have 8 1/2 more months left here in Dallas.  Father, I pray for the time remaining that Jeff and I soak up all that You have to teach us, and equip us with all that we need to carry out Your mission.  I thank You for this beautiful day and I ask a special prayer for those that may be in the path of the hurricane.

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen

Funny Friday Quote:  Bennett Cerf

“A very wise minister surprised his congregation one sweltering mid summer Sunday morning with this announcement:  “Friends, I have here in my hands a hundred-dollar sermon that lasts ten minutes, a fifty-dollar sermon that lasts twenty minutes, and a twenty-dollar sermon that lasts a full hour.  We will now take up the collection and see which one I will deliver.”

Bible verse of the day:  Psalm 75:1

“We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks!  For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for such a blessed day!  As I start this new day, may opportunities arise for me to be used by You in spreading the Truth according to Your Will.  I place my trust in You, for You are my Hope and I will continually praise You all the days of my life.  I thank You for my life and the air that You fill my life with daily!

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

Story of the day:  We represent

“We are representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ…like hands fitting into a glove.  We are the glove.  He is the hand.  People see us.  They see our movement.  They see our impact.  They feel the squeeze of life, the warmth of the hand.  They can’t see Him through the glove.  And so the glove appears regularly on the surface of life.  And people spot it when there is peace in our lives, because there isn’t peace in our world.”  Ian Thomas

Quote of the day:  Oliver Goldsmith

“You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips.”

Bible verse of the day:  James 3:13

“Who is wise and understanding among you?  Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.”

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray to be a worthy example to those around me.  I pray that the words that I use and the actions in my life may be a gift to You and that while I am here on this Earth the things that I do please You.  Father, today I am going to think of the impact my example will have on those around me and will not take it for granted.  Give me the wisdom to live well, live wisely, and to live humbly.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Amen
