Story of the day:  Contentment

The Hope Health Letter (10/95) included this story:

“Once upon a time, there was a man who lived with his wife, two small children, and his elderly parents in a tiny hut.  He tried to be patient and gracious, but the noise and crowded conditions wore him down.

In desperation, he consulted the village wise man.  “Do you have a rooster?”  asked the wise man.

     “Yes,” he replied.

“Keep the rooster in the hut with your family, and come see me again next week.”

The next week, the man returned and told the wise elder that living conditions were worse than ever, with the rooster crowing and making a mess of the hut.

“Do you have a cow?” asked the wise elder.  The man nodded fearfully.  “Take your cow into the hut as well, and come see me in a week.”

Over the next several weeks, the man–on the advice of the wise elder–made room for a goat, two dogs, and his brother’s children.

Finally, he could take no more, and in a fit of anger, kicked out all the animals and guests, leaving only his wife, his children, and his parents.  The home suddenly became spacious and quiet, and everyone lived happily ever after.”

Quote of the day:  Immanuel Kant

“Give a man everything he desires and yet at this very moment he will feel that everything is not everything.”

Bible verse of the day:  Philippians 4:11

“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:”

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the things that You have blessed me with.  I thank You for teaching me about contentment.  Father, life is too short to be worried about what I don’t have and that is not who You created me to be.  I pray to have my heart poured out on those that are in dire need of things and if I can in any way help, then let me be used as Your vessel in this regards.  I thank You for always knowing what my needs are and being there to provide for them.  You have never let me down and I have total faith in You to take care of me.  I thank You for this beautiful day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Funny Friday Quote: What’s wrong with my wife?

Since we will be heading out tomorrow morning and are finalizing the remainder of things here in Dayton (shutting down Internet) I am sending the Funny Friday Quote early.  After today, we will no longer have access to it until we get Internet access in Dallas.  We are so excited to announce that our Pastor will be ordaining Jeff this coming August and thus answering another prayer.  As we begin to see and continue to follow the path that God is placing before us, we can’t wait to start the church in San Antonio, Texas.  We will be a sister church to our current church and look forward to all that God is going to be doing throughout this nation.   We will also be launching Sword Ministries via the internet where it and Quote of the day will fall under our church to become a part of a bigger ministry.    Jeff and I will continue to pray for you all and can’t wait to share more adventures with you.

In Christ’s Love,

Funny Friday Quote:  What’s wrong with my wife?

“A doctor came into a hospital room and told the patient’s husband to wait outside while he examined his wife.  A few minutes later the doctor came out and asked a nurse’s aide if she could get him a pair of pliers.  She did, and he went back into the patient’s room.  Five minutes later he came out and asked for a hammer, the anxious husband demanded to know what was wrong with his wife.  “I don’t know yet,” the doctor said.  “I can’t get my bag open.” (Executive Speechwriter Newsletter)

Bible verse of the day:  Mark 6:31

“And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest while.”  For there were many coming and going, and they did not eve have time to eat.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today ends another week and begins another weekend.  Father, as we head out today, I pray that You continue to guide us for Your Will and show us the things that we need to know for today.  Give us peace as we head into a new area, a new adventure waiting, and new people that we get to meet.  Father, I pray for individuals that don’t know You as their Lord and Savior.  Continue to speak into their hearts and may they hear that ever so gentle voice calling them.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,

Funny Friday Quote: Gone to Sea

Funny Friday Quote:  Gone to sea

“Just as the preacher was about to enter the pulpit, a woman in the congregation handed him a note about her husband.  It read:  “Bill Adams having gone to sea, his wife desires the congregation’s prayers for his safety.”  The preacher, pressed for time, read the note too hastily, telling the congregation, “Bill Adams, having gone to see his wife, desires the prayers of the congregation for his safety.”

Bible verse of the day:  Psalm 71:3

“Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

I just can’t believe how quickly time is flying by!  With so much to do and such little time before our big move, I just pray that You bring things in order, starting with our minds, spirit, and body.  May we find rest in You this day and continue to look forward with the plans that You have set before us.  I thank You for all that You have done in my life and I pray that You continue to change lives and that souls will be saved.  I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name  I pray,

Funny Friday Quote

Funny Friday Quote:  What Happened?

“One day a man came home from work to find total mayhem at home.  The kids were outside still in their pajamas playing in the mud.  There were empty food boxes and wrappers all around.  Entering the house, he found an even bigger mess.  Dishes on the counter, dog food spilled on the floor, a broken glass under the table, and a small pile of sand by the back door.  The family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing, and a lamp had been knocked over.  He headed up the stairs, stepping over toys, to look for his wife.  He was becoming worried that she may be ill, or that something happened to her.

He found her in the bedroom, still in bed with her pajamas on, reading a book.  She looked up at him, smiled and asked how his day went.  He looked at her bewildered and asked, “What happened here today?”

She again smiled and answered, “You know every day when you come home from work and ask me what I did today?”

She answered, “Well, today I didn’t do it!”

Bible verse of the day:  Genesis 2:18

“And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

Dear Heavenly Father,

I rest in Your arms today.  This has been a very busy week and with all the distractions that have tried to take my focus off of you, I have finally made it through another week totally blessed!  God this weekend is a big weekend as Supernova Ministries hosts it first Women’s Conference.  I pray the women of Dayton are blessed, changed, and set on fire for You.  May they leave this conference with hope, love, and encouragement for their life.  I pray that the weather cooperates, safe travel, and most importantly, Your Will to be done.  I pray for the Speakers, the prayer team, and the band. I thank You for this day!

In Jesus Name I pray,
